2023-2026 Ducksoup is one of those rare places in London that still has soul in abundance. Upstairs used to house The Colony Room Club – the iconic drinking den founded in 1948 by Muriel Belcher and frequented by Francis Bacon and countless other artists before it closed in 2008. The same character & energy made it’s way downstairs too.

Low-intervention wines made by producers from Imereti, Georgia to Penedes, Spain. Honest and simple food, grown by producers in the UK. Vinyls playing songs by Grace Jones, HTRK, New Order and Slave.

I ran the daily operations with a small team that included fellow artists, writers and designers, regularly serving up to 100 guests a night out of a tiny bar on Dean Street.

The Showroom is, in my opinion, one of the most important arts spaces in London. They commission and produce socially engaged, site specific works by artists and collectives over a 40 year history. I still believe that The Showroom is incredibly overlooked within the wider art scene in the city, considering it’s wide network of collaborators and archive of projects. 

I joined in October 2019 as the ArtQuest Widening Participation Intern – the last cohort before Covid halted the program – after which I was then hired by the gallery. 

I worked extensively on their communications, leading on the coordination and publishing of all content with the curators. I maintained the website and did extensive work archiving all projects, as well as mailing lists, social media and printed materials. I collaborated with Director Elvira Elvira Dyangani Ose on “Fortnightly Highlights” curated programming, including own edition: “Radical Curiosity”.

I provided crucial assistance in planning, management and curatorial care of all projects and events at The Showroom – see aside links for an overview.
 
As well as this, I worked on the execution of the gallery fundraiser held at Oscar Murillo’s studio, alongside development roles like ACE reporting, patron communications and limited edition & publications sales. I also represented The Showroom at community events, partnering with neighbourhood forums and projects.
